Wynton Marsalis, Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award-winning composer and musician, brought brilliant jazz artistry to MoMA at a gala benefit for The Friends of Education Fund. The evening concert on April 8 began with the surprise appearance of actor and comedian Bill Cosby, who introduced Marsalis and a host of other musicians.
The performance included many of Marsalis’ own dynamic works as well as familiar classic pieces. Organized by the noted impresario and jazz pianist, George Wein, who is also a member of the Friends, the concert was the first in what is hoped to be an annual event to raise funds for The Friends of Education.
