Last January, at JALC, Wynton and The Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor filmed short clips discussing the relationship between the U.S. government and jazz music. On February 5, Wynton was at Yale University for a musical “Q&A” at the United Church on the Green. The Chubb Fellowship also sponsored a delicious lunch and a special guest event exclusively for the students of Timothy Dwight College at the Union League Cafe. Wynton was the guest and he spoke of the attitude of jazz, his philosophy of music, New Orleans, and many other things.

On January 30, 2009, Wynton was in Atlanta with JLCO to play at Atlanta Symphony Hall. Following the performance, the Collective Renaissance Guild (CRG) privy guests assembled in the Woodruff Arts Center for an exclusive cocktail reception with Wynton and other members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Last year, the Wall Street Journal launched a new campaign, “Every Journey Needs a Journal”, that showed the paths celebrities lives have taken, and how people you might not consider to be WSJ reader value it to guide them on that journey. Apple’s iTunes U is offering a lengthy in-depth account of the life of the great Louis Armstrong - and a huge show (a 1.5 hour video) is available now for free from iTunes U. (open directly in iTunes)
The show comes from The Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University. It featured presenters Wynton Marsalis and Stanley Crouch alongside host Robert O’Meally, and is a video recording of a lecture given at the University, on February 1, 2000.
The lecture formed part of the Jazz and American Culture lecture series, featuring live performances from Wynton playing trumpet and piano, and in-depth question and answer sessions.
