Wynton Marsalis streams video of his tribute to the New Orleans Saints and the Crescent City

Jazz impresario Wynton Marsalis created a special tribute with music and words to The New Orleans Saints and his beloved city of New Orleans. The video will be streamed on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 1pm EST live on his Facebook page and Ustream channel.
Wynton Marsalis will be online at 1pm interacting with fans prior to the release.
The tribute was coordinated by Harold Bryant, Vice President of Production for CBS Sports, produced by Sarah Rinaldi and was featured by CBS on THE SUPER BOWL TODAY, the Network’s pre-game studio show for Super Bowl XLIV.
Marsalis’ recitation was recorded in Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The segment captures the spirit of New Orleans and the true meaning of the Saints to the city. Marsalis, whose father took him to the very first Saints game when he was 6 years old, has been a life-long Saints fan.

Wynton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar talk and play basketball

I stepped away from the composition I’m working on to spend some time with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on Wednesday. He interviewed me for his upcoming documentary, “On the Shoulders of Giants”, which will be out in November.
After the interview, Kareem and I shot around. The skyhook was still there, and I showcased my jumpshot. Kareem said my form looked good.
What more could a kid from Kenner, LA ask for…

Video: Nancy Hanks Lecture at Kennedy Center

On March 30, 2009, Wynton Marsalis dazzled and inspired his audience with a moving lecture mixed with performance titled The Ballad of the American Arts. The 22nd Annual Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts & Public Policy was presented to a capacity crowd at the Kennedy Center on the eve of Arts Advocacy Day. Wynton’s lecture addressed the essential value of culture in the recalibration of American identity. After two standing ovations Marsalis wrapped up the evening with a lively performance with members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (Chris Crenshaw, trombone; Victor Goines, saxophone; Carlos Henriquez, bass; Ali Jackson, drums; and Dan Nimmer, piano).

Wynton playing for Timothy Dwight College

On February 5, Wynton was at Yale University for a musical “Q&A” at the United Church on the Green. The Chubb Fellowship also sponsored a delicious lunch and a special guest event exclusively for the students of Timothy Dwight College at the Union League Cafe. Wynton was the guest and he spoke of the attitude of jazz, his philosophy of music, New Orleans, and many other things.
