Wynton Marsalis and Ken Burns honor the life of Jack Johnson

Jazz at Lincoln Center proudly commemorates the Jack Johnson Festival in its new home, Frederick P. Rose Hall, for two special evenings of jazz and film on Friday, November 12 and Saturday, November 13 at 8:00pm.
During the first half of the program, acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns, along with Wynton, will provide commentary and present clips from Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson, Mr. Burns’ upcoming documentary on the heavyweight-boxing champion, author, patent-holding inventor and aspiring bass player.
Wynton composed the original score and, with the Wynton Marsalis Septet, will perform this extraordinary music during the second half of the program to round out a knockout evening.

Wynton Marsalis Septet with Garth Fagan Dance

Internationally acclaimed Garth Fagan Dance and the Wynton Marsalis Septet will perform Griot New York at the Eastman Theatre on Saturday, September 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Griot New York made its world premiere in 1991 at the Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. A collaboration by three visionaries, concept and choreography by Garth Fagan, music composed and arranged by Wynton Marsalis, and set design by sculptor Martin Puryear, Griot New York explores contemporary urban life, human anguish and exaltation, and humankind’s triumph over adversity.

Wynton and the Septet playing in London

Tomorrow August 5 and 6, Wynton will play in London at Jazz Cafè. After these two dates he will conclude the European tour in Marciac.

First impression of the italian tour dates with Wynton and the Septet

We are just came back after the four italian dates of the Wynton Marsalis Septet.
The concerts has been fantastic and we have a lot of photos and videos to publish on this fan club.
The 14 years old Francesco Cafiso, left people speechless playing also a duet with Cassandra Wilson at the Blue Note in Milan. Wynton told us: “I never heard anyone play jazz like him at that age. Never”
We also had the possibility to listen to some new upcoming Wynton’s CDs. (The Magic Hour…)
They are simply amazing !

The Wynton Marsalis Septet in Spain

Wynton with his Septet is now in Spain for 4 dates. They will play tomorrow, July 15, at Vitoria for the Festival de jazz de Vitoria-Gasteiz.
On July 16, they will play at the Auditori in Barcelona.
On July 17, they will play at the Palau de la Musica in Valencia, and on July 18 at Festival Internacional de Jazz in San Javier.

Wynton is playing in Berlin

Wynton Marsalis with his Septet is now playing in Berlin at the Soultrane Jazz Club.
He performed yesterday and will perform tonight also.
Tomorrow night the Septet will be at the at The Hague (Netherlands) for the North Sea Jazz Festival

The young Francesco Cafiso will play with Wynton in Europe

The young italian alto-saxophone player, Francesco Cafiso (14 years old !), will play with the Wynton Marsalis Septet during the European tour.
Francesco Cafiso is from Sicily and is a wonderful jazz musician.
Wynton listened to him for the first time playing before his concert with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra in Pescara, last year, on July 17 2002, and was astonished by the performance of that young italian boy.
