On May 10, Wynton received an honorary doctorate during 2007 New York University commencement ceremonies in Washington Square Park, in New York City. The event was NYU’s 175th commencement celebrating the graduation of approximately 15,000 members of the Class of 2007.

Yesterday night, three high school jazz bands took top honors in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 12th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival.
Each band was chosen by a panel of judges composed of distinguished jazz musicians and historians - chosen by a panel of judges composed of distinguished jazz musicians and historians: Wynton Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center Artistic Director; Music Director, Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, David Baker; composer, conductor, and Ellington authority David Berger; and author, composer, and conductor Gunther Sshuller - from among the 15 finalist bands from the U.S. and Canada that came to the Competition & Festival on May 4, 5, & 6, 2007.

Last Tuesday, on March 26, Wynton was in Syracuse and gave a masterclass for the alumni of Onondaga Community College. Here is an article about the event on Syracuse.com.
On March 27 he played with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in Utica. Thanks to our friend Michael who gave us the link, we can show you have a wonderful audio-photo slideshow of the concert.

On December 14, Wynton hosted a spectacular event for Around the World New York at Dizzy’s Jazz Club at JALC.
Overlooking a sparkling Manhattan skyline with Central Park in the foreground, ENSO 2007, the new project by Drue, was showed.

On March 13 Wynton was in Washington for the National Arts Advocacy Day 2007.
He spoke at House Appropriations subcommittee hearing on the importance of investing in the arts.
