Wynton and the new SmartMusic v9.0

MakeMusic Inc. on Tuesday announced the release of SmartMusic 9.0, a new version of their practice program for students of woodwind, brass, string and vocal.
New to this release of SmartMusic is a new jazz repertoire created by Wynton and his musicians - users can practice listening to accompaniments from Eric Lewis on piano, Carlos Henriquez on bass and Ali Jackson on drums.
Users learn sing solo-line playback and assessment tools, on-screen transcription of rhythm sections, jazz improvisation patters and 160 graded “Play by Ear” exercises using “call and response.”

Wynton’s Joy2Learn e-presentation is now available !

The previously announced Joy2Learn e-presentation about jazz is now available !
The presentations are menu-driven collections of video vignettes, with performances, commentary, historical examples, and interactive games and quizzes. The content is completely free. It can be run from the site or downloaded for later classroom use (requires a password), and many teacher helps are available directly through the modules.

In this program, Wynton tells us about growing up in a musical family, his early struggles with practicing and his love of classical music. He discusses the trumpet and its history, and he demonstrates how the trumpet is played.

In the History of Jazz we learn of its origins in African music and the evolution of the form, including ragtime, bebop, latin and fusion. In the section called Nuts and Bolts of Jazz, Wynton discusses the blues, swing, the composition of the jazz band and the importance of improvisation to the playing of jazz. Wynton also introduces us to jazz legends from Scott Joplin, Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington to Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and John Coltrane. Each section features live action clips, music, and a two-part quiz game. This e-presentation is accompanied by an extensive glossary, Things to Think About and a resource section for teachers.

Now is it possible to view the presentation online in real time. It requires a broadband connection and Flash plug-in.

Wynton in a new “Joy2Learn” e-Presentations

A new Joy2Learn e-presentation is currently in production.
It is entitled “Jazz” and focus on Wynton Marsalis. The presentations are menu-driven collections of video vignettes, with performances, commentary, historical examples, and interactive games and quizzes. The content id completely free. It can be run from the site or downloaded for later classroom use, and many teacher helps are available directly through the modules.

Joy2Learn presents world-class visual and performing artists in e-Presentations available to schools free of charge. These are the first in an ongoing series of interactive presentations created for classroom use. Students can navigate through an exiting array of videos including performances, insight, history and quiz games. Additionally, the presentations include interactive multimedia elements such as entertaining quiz games, animated navigation, images and text operating in tandem for a comprehensive learning experience.
