Wynton’s Joy2Learn e-presentation is now available !

July 26, 2005  - 3 Comments

The previously announced Joy2Learn e-presentation about jazz is now available !
The presentations are menu-driven collections of video vignettes, with performances, commentary, historical examples, and interactive games and quizzes. The content is completely free. It can be run from the site or downloaded for later classroom use (requires a password), and many teacher helps are available directly through the modules.

In this program, Wynton tells us about growing up in a musical family, his early struggles with practicing and his love of classical music. He discusses the trumpet and its history, and he demonstrates how the trumpet is played.

In the History of Jazz we learn of its origins in African music and the evolution of the form, including ragtime, bebop, latin and fusion. In the section called Nuts and Bolts of Jazz, Wynton discusses the blues, swing, the composition of the jazz band and the importance of improvisation to the playing of jazz. Wynton also introduces us to jazz legends from Scott Joplin, Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington to Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and John Coltrane. Each section features live action clips, music, and a two-part quiz game. This e-presentation is accompanied by an extensive glossary, Things to Think About and a resource section for teachers.

Now is it possible to view the presentation online in real time. It requires a broadband connection and Flash plug-in.
This is a wonderful free online resource about Wynton and jazz music !
