From today, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton and Odadaa! with Yacub Addy will tour the critically-acclaimed work, Congo Square, written by Wynton and Mr. Addy, to 11 U.S. cities. The 24 musicians will perform the celebrated musical experience that had its premiere in New Orleans last spring. A CD of Congo Square is available on tour only right now, and will be released in the fall.
Today the band is performing in Rochester; tomorrow June 15, they will be in Philadelphia (read article by Philly.com and an interview by the Citypaper); on June 16 they will perform in Bushkill (article by the Morning Call Online; on June 18 in Cleveland (read articles by the Akron Beacon Journal and the Cleveland Scene).

Following you’ll find the set lists for the Congo Square Tour (June 2007) and the Full Steam Ahead Tour (July 2007).
The Full Steam Ahead Set List only applies to the Full Steam Ahead Tour, which is only being performed in the North Sea Jazz Festival (Rotterdam), Istanbul, and the U.K. The rest of the venues will have a different program, “The Music of Ornette Coleman”, (set list to be published).
Also, please note that this set list is not set in stone and will probably change because it is listed as being a “possible repertoire list”. Please, check Wynton’s tour schedule for dates and venues.

On April 10, 11 & 12, 2008, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will premiere a special mass composed by Wynton Marsalis to commemorate the 200th anniversary of The Abyssinian Baptist Church.
Combining jazz and gospel traditions, this liturgy of the Abyssinian service is the first time collaboration for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III and the church choir.

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s nationwide Duke Ellington repertory competition concludes this weekend, as 15 high school jazz orchestras come out swinging.
The bands will compete and participate in a festival of workshops, jam sessions and more, during the final Competition & Festival in New York City on May 4 - 6 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
The top placing bands perform with Wynton Marsalis, as a soloist on May 6 at Avery Fisher Hall followed by an all Ellington concert performed by the 15-piece Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra - all of whom serve as mentors for each of the finalist bands during this weekend festival. The three-day festival culminates with the awards ceremony honoring outstanding soloists and sections and placing the three top bands.

On April 26, 27 at Rose Theater, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis debuted exciting and long-overdue big band arrangements of music recorded for Blue Note Records in the 1950s and ’60s.

We have just updated our tour section with new dates.
Wynton will tour with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra in USA performing Congo Square, and will be also in tour in Europe this summer, with dates in England, Germany, Belgium, Polland, Spain, etc…

Wynton and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) will debut big band arrangements of tunes by some of Blue Note Records’ seminal albums from 1939 to the late ’60s in a concert event entitled “The Legends of Blue Note” on April 26, 27 & 28 at 8pm in Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.
The Legends of Blue Note will feature the critically acclaimed big band performing music from Lee Morgan’s Cornbread, Horace Silver’s Songs For My Father, Herbie Hancock’s Maiden Voyage and many more recordings from the renowned record label.

Last Tuesday, on March 26, Wynton was in Syracuse and gave a masterclass for the alumni of Onondaga Community College. Here is an article about the event on Syracuse.com.
