Tap Meets Flamenco at JALC

On April 24, 25 & 26, 2008, at Rose Theater, in a special concert event called Tap Meets Flamenco, Spanish pianist Chano Dominguez performs his work De Cadi a New Orleans with his flamenco ensemble and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra also performs selections from The Vitoria Suite, which the city of Vitoria, Spain commissioned Wynton Marsalis to write and “Evolution of the Groove” featuring drummer Herlin Riley.
Featuring guests Israel Suarez, tap dancers Jared Grimes, Dewitt Fleming, Jr. and flamenco dancer Tomasito, Tap Meets Flamenco explores jazz, Spanish rhythms and dance. More info about tickets on Jalc.org

“Playing Our Parts” Concert at JALC with Wynton and JLCO

On Monday, March 10, 2008, 7:30 p.m., Joe Lovano and John Scofield team up with Jazz at Lincoln Center and Wynton to bring together incredible performers in a benefit concert for beloved bassist Dennis Irwin. All artists are donating their services and Jazz at Lincoln Center is donating its venue and staff to raise much-needed funds for Irwin through The Jazz Foundation of America. JALC invites the jazz community and music fans to come together in support of Dennis Irwin, who is in need of immediate financial support for medical treatment and expenses as he battles a serious illness.

The concert will feature performances by these and other special guests: Mose Allison, Tony Bennett, Ron Carter, Bill Charlap, Jack DeJohnette, Bill Frisell, Jim Hall, Jon Hendricks, Joe Lovano, Wynton Marsalis, Paul Motian, John Patitucci, John Scofield, Sultans of Swing with David Berger.

Congo Square’s Sanctified Blues promoted at Stanford University

The deal will allow Stanford faculty, staff, students and Lively Arts patrons to download music by artists featured in the upcoming Lively Arts season using free iTunes gift cards.
From now through March 15, the cards will be made available to patrons at all Lively Arts performances and to customers at the Stanford Bookstore, Tresidder Express, the Track House Sport Shop, the Cantor Arts Center Gift Shop and the Stanford Shop at Stanford Shopping Center. Lively Arts plans to mail the cards to Stanford students, faculty and staff in early February and will make the cards available to its community partners, including the Palo Alto Unified School District and East Palo Alto’s educational program College Track.

Wynton starts the Ellington Love Songs tour with JLCO

Today, January 16, Wynton and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) are in Ann Arbour (MI) for the first performance of “Ellington Love Songs Tour” across North America (from January through Februry 12). Read an article about the event on the Ann Arbor News.
Please check the complete tour schedule with more info about venues and tickets. The tour will end in New York City, with 3 dates at Rose Hall (JALC). We also added new tour dates for March and April.

Wynton to play with Paquito D’Rivera for: Beyond the Spanish Tinge

On Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1, Tinge Paquito D’Rivera and the JLCO with Wynton Marsalis bring all the mambo, tango, salsa, cubop and bossa nova that the House of Swing can hold in tribute to the most beloved Latin composers of all time: Juan Tizol, Tito Puente, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Chucho Valdés, Michele Camilo, Moacir Santos, Mario Bauzá, Astor Piazzolla, Lalo Schifrin, Chico O’Farrill, Maria Greever and more.

Wynton to play at JALC 2007 Fall Gala and Best of Big Bands

On November 12, at Rose Theater, Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrates his 2007 Fall Gala featuring performances by Wynton and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, with special guests singing chart-topping hits of the big band era; Special presentation and dedication of the Ed Bradley Award (formerly the Jazz at Lincoln Center Award for Leadership) will be awarded posthumously to Ed Bradley.
The program continues on November 15, 16, 17, at Rose Theater, where the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, led by Wynton, dusts off pieces by Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and others in a program that aims to please, entitled Best of Big Bands. The highly polished vocalists Freddy Cole and Ernestine Anderson join the party as featured guests.

Wynton playing the music of Gil Evans at JALC

On October 25, 26, 27 , at Rose Theater, the JLCO with Wynton Marsalis eases into the lilting, richly textured and deeply romantic world of one of jazz’s pre-eminent arrangers and the master of impressionistic sound, the legendary Gil Evans with selections from Sketches of Spain, Porgy and Bess and more.
Wynton will rehearse the music for the concert with the JLCO on October 23, 24, at Rose Theater.

Wynton plays for the Benny Carter Centennial

From October 15-21, Jazz at Lincoln Center opens the 2007-08 season with the Benny Carter Centennial throughout Frederick P. Rose Hall on Broadway at 60th St. in New York City . Wynton with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will perform the music of this legendary jazz musician on October 19 & 20, 2007. Anchor and Managing Editor of “NBC Nightly News” Brian Williams will host the October 19th concert and former New York Giants running back and “Today Show” correspondent Tiki Barber will host the October 20th concert.
