Marciac 2008 Video: The Septet plays Reflections and Happy Birthday for Marcus Roberts

On August 6-7, 2008, Wynton was rehearsing with his Septet for the August 8, 2008, concert in Marciac (France). The first two video-clips we publish today, will take you behind the scenes, during the rehearsals, to appreciate the musicians rehearsing the beautiful music of Thelonious Monk’s “Reflections” and improvising a special version of Happy Birthday for the pianist Marcus Roberts.
Septet personnel was: Wynton Marsalis (trumpet); Wycliffe Gordon (trombone); Victor Goines (tenor sax, bass clarinet); Wes “WarmDaddy” Anderson (alto sax); Marcus Roberts (piano); Reginald Veal (bass); Herlin Riley (drums).

Marsalis on Music DVD trailer available for download

The famous series entitled “Marsalis on Music”, in which Wynton explains the fundamentals of music to middle school audiences, is available as four-DVD boxed set. We produced a trailer to show you an excerpt from the videos.

Congo Square’s Sanctified Blues promoted at Stanford University

The deal will allow Stanford faculty, staff, students and Lively Arts patrons to download music by artists featured in the upcoming Lively Arts season using free iTunes gift cards.
From now through March 15, the cards will be made available to patrons at all Lively Arts performances and to customers at the Stanford Bookstore, Tresidder Express, the Track House Sport Shop, the Cantor Arts Center Gift Shop and the Stanford Shop at Stanford Shopping Center. Lively Arts plans to mail the cards to Stanford students, faculty and staff in early February and will make the cards available to its community partners, including the Palo Alto Unified School District and East Palo Alto’s educational program College Track.

Video: Wynton giving Masterclass in Marciac 2007

On August 3 - 4, 2007, Wynton gave Master Classes for kids in Marciac. The following video-clips will take you behind the scenes during the lessons, to appreciate how Wynton, with the precious help of Victor Goines, taught the fundamentals of Jazz music to young kids of Marciac College.

Video: Wynton interviewed by Culture Catch

Recently, Wynton was interviewed in the Rose Theater by the staff of Culture Catch.
In the long and interesting video-interview (20 min.) he spoke about the feeling of Jazz music, his life on the road, Art Blakey, his mentors, his approach to play classical music, his favourite records, the relationship with people coming to concerts at JALC, etc…. Enjoy it !
