Wynton Marsalis To Stream Live Worldwide From Jazz In Marciac Festival

On August 5th The Wynton Marsalis Quintet plus guests will perform “Modern New Orleans Music” featuring compositions from New Orleans natives within the last 30 years at the renowned Jazz in Marciac Festival. An annual favorite of the festival, Wynton celebrates his 20th annual appearance performing at Marciac, France, a town that is nearest to his heart next to his native New Orleans.
For those who can’t make the pilgrimage to Marciac in the south of France to witness this renowned trumpeter’s performance you can experience it LIVE via Wynton’s page on Facebook and Ustream.

Dave Brubeck Celebrates 90th Birthday As Special Guest with Wynton Marsalis Quintet at CareFusion Newport Jazz Festival on Sunday, August 8

Dave Brubeck has been thrilling fans in Newport for more than half his life, and George Wein is proud to announce that the legendary pianist is returning to the CareFusion Newport Jazz Festival to celebrate his 90th birthday as a special guest with his friend Wynton Marsalis on Sunday, August 8.
Making a unique appearance with the Wynton Marsalis Quintet, Brubeck comes to Newport fresh from a performance at the Litchfield Jazz Festival, where the festival’s 15th anniversary is dedicated in his honor.

“Louis” a Silent Movie with Live Accompaniment by Wynton and Jazz Ensemble to Premiere in August with a US Tour

“Louis,” a silent film directed by Dan Pritzker and starring Jackie Earle Haley, Shanti Lowry and Anthony Coleman, will premiere in US cities in late August with live musical accompaniment by Wynton Marsalis, renowned pianist Cecile Licad and a 10-piece all-star jazz ensemble, including Sherman Irby, Victor Goines, Marcus Printup, Ted Nash, Kurt Bacher, Vincent Gardner, Wycliffe Gordon, Dan Nimmer, Carlos Henriquez, Ali Jackson, and conductor Andy Farber. Marsalis will play a score comprised primarily of his own compositions. Licad will play the music of 19th century American composer L.M. Gottschalk.

Essentially Ellington Festival and Competition Celebrates 15 Years May 7-9, 2010

Jazz at Lincoln Center will welcome the 15 finalist bands and the winning community band to prestigious 15th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival. The bands will compete and participate in workshops, jam sessions, and more during a three-day Competition & Festival in New York City. The three top-placing bands will perform with Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center Wynton Marsalis as guest soloist, followed by a performance of the 15-piece Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, whose members serve as mentors for the finalist bands throughout the weekend. The Festival’s finale is an awards ceremony honoring outstanding soloists, sections, and the top three bands. The Competition & Festival is the culmination of the annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program (EE). EE also includes regional festivals, curriculum resources, a summer Band Director Academy, monthly newsletters, and more.

The Barbican Announces Jazz at Lincoln Center Residency: United in Swing 2010

The Barbican is proud to announce the details of its first International Residency Series. The partnership with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis along with a stellar group of JALC musicians offers audiences at the Barbican and in East London the opportunity to experience some of the best big band music in the world, played by a selection of Americas finest jazz musicians. This major concert series is augmented by a programme of Creative Learning in London schools and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, organised by the Barbican/Guildhall School Creative Learning Division in partnership with Jazz at Lincoln Center. This includes workshops, masterclasses, professional development and a keynote address by Wynton Marsalis.  There will also be performances in a variety of East London partner venues including a swing dance evening at Stoke Newington Town Hall, jam sessions at the Vortex in Dalston, and a special family concert at Hackney Empire.

Abu Dhabi Festival 2010 to feature Middle East debut of Wynton Marsalis

The Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF) today announced that Wynton Marsalis will make his debut in the Arab World as part of the Abu Dhabi Festival 2010. The nine time Grammy Award winner will join one of the strongest line ups the festival has ever offered when he performs on 5th April at Emirates Palace, adding a new flavor to this two week manifestation of world class performances in traditional and classical music, drama, fine arts, and ballet.

ASO’s performance of Blues Symphony to be broadcast on Monday, January 18th

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will perform the 18th annual musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, “A King Celebration” on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. The performance, commemorating the life and work of the celebrated civil rights leader, will take place in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel of Morehouse College, the alma mater of Dr. King. The program will feature movements II, III, IV, V and VI of Wynton Marsalis’s Blues Symphony; Part I of Slavery Documents by Donald Sur; Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, and the traditional “We Shall Overcome.” The concert will be broadcast to nearly 250 radio stations across the country on American Public Media’s Performance Today, hosted by Fred Child, on Monday, January 18, 2010.
