Tickets for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2009-2010 concerts are on sale now!

August 18, 2009  - Concerts

Ornette Coleman makes his Jazz at Lincoln Center concert debut to open the 2009-10 season on September 26. For one night only, Coleman and his two bass band perform inventive compositions that continue to influence generations of jazz musicians. The band includes Ornette Coleman (alto saxophone, trumpet, violin), his son Denardo Coleman (drums), Anthony Falanga (acoustic bass), and Al McDowell (electric bass). After five decades of creating music for free jazz ensembles, large-scale symphonies and pop-style electric bands, Ornette Coleman remains one of the most celebrated names in jazz.

Ornette Coleman was inducted into Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Nesuhi Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame in 2008. You can visit the Hall of Fame online at http://www.jalc.org/halloffame.

I enjoyed the show immensely, and one piece in particular stood out for me. It was performed probably towards the middle of the show, and began with Anthony Falanga using the bow on his bass. The piece sounded so familiar, I’m wondering if it was in a commercial or movie? Does anyone know the piece I’m trying to describe? Thanks!
