Wynton to play for Dr. George Butler at Dizzy’s Jazz Club
On December 8, 2008, at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Wynton and his Quintet (Walter Blanding, sax; Dan Nimmer, piano; Carlos Henriquez, bass; Ali Jackson, drums) will play to remember Dr. George Butler.
Mr. Butler, a prominent jazz record executive for the Columbia, Blue Note and United Artists labels from the late 1960s to the late 1990s, died last April 9, 2008. He was instrumental in signing Wynton to Columbia.

Just got a recording of The Big Train. It made me appreciate you Wynton as a composer of note. It lagitimizes jazz big band and is as important as any Symphony Orchestra. I can hear the influences of Duke as well as Dizzy. I’ve never heard anything like this recording. Please do more.
I’m also a trumpet player in several bands. The sounds that you have composed of the train are truly amazing. Thank you for this composition.

remembering Dr. George on this first anniversary of his passing. He did so much for the music and touched so many lives through his great love for jazz. I was blessed to be one of them, we met back in 1972 while working at UA/Blue Note.
