Very cool to see Wynton back at the top again. I honestly don’t know how anyone other than him or Clark Terry could ever even be considered!!!!

I agree with you!!!! There are alot of top performers who won the polls for different categories. I love Clark Terry he is on my new cd playing bothe fugle and trumpet on In Walked Bud along with Wycliffe. Hear What we did on Wynton’s tune Loose Duck see the ad in Dec.Billboard issue. Check the web or local record stores to obtain.

About Wynton being trumpeter of the year, is unsurprising. Wynton is to jazz - real jazz - what Barack “BO” Obama is to politics. If Wynton is not invited to perform at BO’s inauguration, I will be amply disappointed in BO. In fact there should even be a televised debate/discussion between BO and Wynton on the ability of jazz to keep hope alive, especially in these financiallly drepressing times for many Americans.
BO needs to invite Wynton to put together the presidential jazz ensemble, which will host the presidential jazz invitational at JALC.
Wynton saved jazz from its deathbed, he has always deserved the accolade of best trumpeter, not just trumpeter of the year. Ol’ Ellis must be proud.
I wish Wynton all of the best going forward.
By the way, Wynton must come to South Africa to launch his book here too. I will start making the arrangements, sounds crazy and friv, but just watch and believe.

I hear OB likes Jazz. I am sorry I missed the show. I heard it was great and that young pianst Wynton Kelly was (student of Marcus Robert) was really playing up a storm over at Wynton’s house afterwards. What are you talking about Ugly Betty?????????????
