Wynton and Stanley Crouch speaking about Louis Armstrong

November 15, 2008  - Video

Apple’s iTunes U is offering a lengthy in-depth account of the life of the great Louis Armstrong - and a huge show (a 1.5 hour video) is available now for free from iTunes U. (open directly in iTunes)
The show comes from The Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University. It featured presenters Wynton Marsalis and Stanley Crouch alongside host Robert O’Meally, and is a video recording of a lecture given at the University, on February 1, 2000.
The lecture formed part of the Jazz and American Culture lecture series, featuring live performances from Wynton playing trumpet and piano, and in-depth question and answer sessions.

    Mr. Couch

I find you soooo interesting, and the questions and answers you bring are very intelligent, and make you think……

I think it would be a pleasure to see you as the spokes person for our “Generation” to see….

I’ve seen you so many times on TV. I enjoy what you say and what you don’t say.. That’s what we need in our community “Today”. I understand your “Take” on a lot of “issues” we have in our community….

I’m from a small town in Illinois/Waukegan and I’ll tell you our people are lost…. Im working on my “Masters” Degree in Education but Im still a little conflicted… Is it worth it… Not sure… My son is also in college, I want him to be a “Journalist” to be able to report what he sees, and travel doing it. It’s not about the “money”. It’s about the “Truth”. As for me and mines we will “serve”.

    Hello-
An education degree is definately worth it. Our children are well deserved but underserved. If you can help our babies to succeed-A Masters Degree in education is a wonderful start!

I agree Stanley Couch waxes poetic on Wynton Marsalis CD and album covers. He has a way with words and is ‘well deep’ in a number of issues.

Good luck changing the world one child at a time!!
