What a great summer tour! Half the setlist from the recent Ottawa festival represents jazz music from 1960-1965! Wynton’s arrangement of Giant Steps (1960) for big band is especially powerful, and Ted Nash has beautifully recreated the ballad, Ceora (1965).
It’s good to see the lesser known composers (McLean, Morgan, Henderson) featured together with Coltrane and Ellington.
The inclusion of Braggin’ in Brass (1938), which was so ahead of its time, clearly demonstrates Wynton’s theme that the canon of jazz can remain relevant and modern. It’s interesting how the varied jazz selections blend from the past into the present.
The addition of The Cape Verdean Blues (1965) and Strayhorn’s ode (1949) complete a wonderful musical tour spanning seven decades.

Can’t wait to hear these great tunes! I’ll be making a trip from Austin to Fort Worth with my wife and daughter to see the show. Thank you Wynton and the JLCO for scheduling a stop in Texas. You are always welcome in the Lone Star State.

Edmonton concert at the Windspear was incredible! I sat in the the fourth row and got to watch the trumpeters joke with each other all night. Wynton and the JLCO are unbelievable. I can’t stop thinking about the “Holy Ghost” tune. Crazy!

Saw the JLCO in Reno Saturday night. It was sensational. Even ran into Wynton himself at the Fin Fish Restaurant. The musicians in this band are absolutely top notch, the best in the business.
Cheers, Eric

My wife and I just “experienced” the JLCO and Mr. Marsalis @ Anthology in San Diego. I must say that it was the best birthday present ever!! I have been a big fan of Wynton’s musical and historical prowess…and to see him live was a privilege!!!
Thank You Wynton and the JLCO!!!

Fantastic performance in Cupertino and jam in the bar in Vancouver. It was a privilege to meet and talk with Ali, Carlos and Mr. Marsalis himself. Thank you kindly for your Flint Center performance. I only wish the Hammar sisters from Sweden could have seen it.
All the best to your entire band for a safe and fun tour. The joy you bring to your audience is priceless.
Many thanks,
Alysia
