Chris was very impressive on "Old Man Blues", which is one of my favorites from the Ellington Okeh collection. It felt like I was listening to the Ellington band of the late 1920's.

The entertaining duet is from Duke's Perfume Suite, entitled Dancers In Love. Dan's improv. is terrific.

J@LCO nailed the hard driving rhythmn on Duke's masterpiece...Here's an earlier version of the energetic Rockin' in Rhythm by the Ellington band:

These guys are playing great. Dan Nimmer and Carlos Henriquez in the spotlight of a seeming Blue Moon, that one is "Moon over Cuba"? Later on trombone, Chris Crenshaw's solo hit those deep tones in the lower register, he's onto his stride quickly in this band. Well, he does sit right in front of Wynton, must get a lot of wind on his shoulders. That's one of the longest solos I've heard him play. And it was a harmonically clean progression into Sherman on clarinet and Markus on trumpet, excellent voicing. And like whip cream on a sundae, the intensity was on in NYC.

Wonderful! This was an extraordinary tour, too. Thanks so much, Luigi!

There is such elegance in Ellington's work, whether it's a colorful suite, sultry ballad or frenetic dance. Every musical adventure contains Duke's stamp of care, originality, and prodigious wit. J@LCO has pinpointed every nuance, bringing Duke's musical phrasing to modern life. A combined legacy for all of us!
