I attended the concert in Ann Arbor last night. What a great way to start the New Year by listening to Duke’s music being played by LCJO.The concert swung from beginning to end.The highlight for me was hearing Mr Temperly play “Single Petal of a Rose”.After he finished his solo their was not a dry eye in the house.
This is a must see concert by a group of seasoned musicians.

I am a student at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and I’d like to say that Wynton and the JCLO were truly outstanding. What a brilliantly and wonderfully arranged performance.

I just saw JLCO this evening in Minneapolis. Jacques is right - Mr. Temperly’s playing of The Single Petal of a Rose was perhaps the most moving piece of music I’ve ever experienced.
Please, someone. Tell me where I can find this piece perfomred by JLCO on a CD or vinyl record.
Don’t miss this concert - it’s outstanding.

In The Swing Seat - I have listened to this show on my XM radio and I think it is amazing. My 17 yr old son is the lead alto in his schoold jazz band and I think that he (and the entire jazz band would learn so much from the show. IS there a way to purchase the show on CD or download so the kids in the school Jazz band could expand their knowledge? The more they know about the roots of Jazz, the better they would understand what they are playing and the more emotion they would put in to it.
Thanks in advance.

My husband and I saw Wynton and the JLCO last night in Berkeley, CA. What a treat!!! This is one of the classiest, most sophisticated groups of musicians we have seen on a stage together. And the musicianship is unparalled. The highlight of the show was “Creole Love Call”, where Wynton blew that horn like no one I’ve ever heard before. And Mike Dwyer (see above) is right about Mr. Temperley’s performance on “The Single Petal of a Rose”. It stopped the show. If you don’t have tix yet…beg, borrow or steal to get them! You will not be disappointed!

You’re right — somehow J@LCO keeps getting better and better every year, and the band was already unparalleled during its tenure at Tully!
A great way to begin 2008: unanimous, enthusiastic acclaim of the Ellington tour across the U.S.
We look forward to attending this festival of Duke’s works and are interested in hearing the more obscure selections (Moon Over Cuba, Perfume Suite, Such Sweet Thunder). Hope more clips will be added to this site.
Look forward also to the upcoming world premiere, Abyssinian 200! Congratulations! Glo.

I had the great good fortune to see and hear Mr. Marsalis and the JLCO at the Disney Center in Los Angeles on February 1. It was an incredible performance by incredibly talented and accomplished musicians; undoubtedly the best musical performance I have ever attended (jazz, classical, chamber, choral…it doesn’t matter). I can only hope to see these guys in person again someday.

Wynton Marsalis made a surprise appearance last weekend at Jazz at the Bistro — in St. Louis’ Grand Center arts district — to the delight of the audience. Marsalis and eight members of the acclaimed Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performed an impromptu jazz session at the club, which Marsalis was quoted in USA Today as saying is one of the 10 greatest places in the country to see and hear live jazz. Marsalis started out by sitting in with husband and wife team Reggie and Mardra Thomas and their band, including Nick Jost on bass and Marty Morrison on drums. Reggie Thomas, a Lincoln Center clinician and friend of many of the musicians in the orchestra, invited them onstage to perform. They all played Thomas’ arrangement of the jazz standard “At Last.” Then the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra took over the stage and coaxed their remaining colleagues up to the stage to play “I’ll Remember April.” Marsalis and crew were in town for an earlier performance at the Sheldon Concert Hall’s annual gala.
