Absolutely brilliant, awe enspiring. For the first time can really say words cannot describe the brilliance, honesty, humanity embodied by Wynton.

If humanity can somehow produce a Wynton - perhaps there is hope we can save ourselves from ourselves.

For those of you who know, love and respect Wynton - wish you could have been there.

I needn't comment any further...Jane said it beautifully and accurately! Plus, I'm speechless again....so rare to witness such a dynamic presentation - they commanded the stage with humility, skill and playful improvisation, both musically and verbally. What more can you ask for? I guess I wasn't as speechless as I had thought. :)

Yesterday's audience of Canadian healthcare providers, administrators and industry reps. was completely engrossed in the performance, which linked the innovation in jazz and the evolution of jazz to expression of creativity in every element of our lives.

Wynton and his quintet were generous with their time and reenergized our souls with their playing. Their playful attitude to their metier did not mask their highly skilled music making.

His comments on our personal responsibility to develop creativity were an inspiration to those who heard him and understood what he said - that after life itself, our creativity is our next greatest gift and we have a duty to develop what we have been given.

Thanks Wynton and your brilliant combo.

Best, Jane

Cool ZS, mostly it was mostly local seats this year. That's a set list, what with Buddy Bolden's Blues, you know that trumpet is going up the register.

I just had the priviledge of seeing Mr. Marsalis speak and play at the OHA convention here in Toronto, ON. I'd like to materialize my speechlessness, if at all possible, and comment on the relevance of his discussion for healthcare workers. As a theatre student/musician/healthcare worker, I was thankful to Mr. Marsalis, as he reminded us to embrace the symbiotic interplay of passion and technique. The manifestations of this approach will continue to unfold in healtcare, as passionate healthcare workers search for new ways of working (TOGETHER!) to improve the quality of our system. Needless to say, he was truly inspiring!

We, all across the USA, have elections every year on the first Tuesday of November. (Our national holiday, Thanksgiving, also rotates on the 4th Thursday of every November.) Seats in the governmental houses on all levels -- Federal(national), State, and Local-- expire and need to be filled by the people's choice of candidate. All of the seats have a certain number of years that a person holds for that office and then they are up for re-election. Who we are voting for changes every year based on the schedule of term lengths.

Also, I, too, am looking forward to reading the transcriptions of Wynton's speech.

The setting sounds like the business forum he talked to last year, where if I remember correctly, his subject was Creativity.
It will be interesting to read how he approach his topic in the context of health professionals. Perhaps his thinking had time to refine itself with more focus, cohesion and practicality so as to be meaningful to the whole spectrum of health professionals represented there, who do not necessarily think in terms of instant creation (that improvised Jazz music is). Looking forward to read the maestro approach on this.
