Video about Wynton visiting the New Jersey State Prison
In August 2005, Wynton visited the maximum security prison in Trenton to meet the inmates, who are members of a group called the Jazz Allstars Band, after receiving a letter from Jerald Albrecht, a convicted robber who plays a mean guitar.
On YouTube there’s a video about that event, where Wynton plays with members of the band.

NJSP band has a nice sound. It’s always interesting to see how music can affect people for good.

The positive effects music has is far reaching and is evident in this video. I applaud Wynton’s relentless pursuit of music education, particularly jazz and unselfishly sharing his knowledge.

There is another jazz project initiated by myself and my partner Howard Wiley called “The Angola Project.” For more information take a look at www.howardwiley.com. We are arranging spirituals, blues and worksongs from Angola State Prison in Louisiana and Parchamn Farm in Mississippi for strings and horns.

That Wynton would take the time to go over, play, give lessons and generally raise up everyone’s spirits is exceptionally generous on his part. I’m impressed with everything Wynton does. Thanks for all that you do, man.
