Wynton played at New Jersey State Prison

August 24, 2005  - Special report

TRENTON - Behind thick brick and cinderblock walls, coiled barbed wire, past security gates and locked doors, the sweet and mellow sounds of jazz filled a room yesterday as seven New Jersey State Prison inmates jammed with Wynton Marsalis.

Wynton said he came to the maximum security prison to meet the inmates, who are members of a group called the Jazz Allstars Band, after receiving a letter from Jerald Albrecht, a convicted robber who plays a mean guitar.

    You go Baby!

I am so proud of this beautiful black man!
He is spreading not only his music but his heart, his humanitarian spirit and his giving soul in a multitude of contexts!

I am sure Wynton took (as) much from the experience himself…..

Can’t help but love him dearly

Amazing musician and great man glad i had the chance to meet you winston ! keep doing what you do best!!!This message is for tracy who left the last message i am a correction officer and was there the day winston came to my prison and to your comment you should take no sorrow in eric daniels I dont know if you know his crime that landed him not only in new jersey but life without parole he was convicted along with troy kell in the brutal stabbing murder of another inmate..(ATTORNEY GENERAL ARGUES FOUR CONTROVERSIAL CASES

Appeals lawyers for the Attorney General’s Office will be arguing in four legally significant cases before the Utah Supreme Court. Here’s a summary of each case:

    April 2, 10:30 A.M., Matheson Courthouse: - State v. Daniels.
Inmate Eric Daniels was convicted of Aggravated Murder for holding down Lonnie Blackmon’s legs while Troy Kell fatally stabbed the victim 67 times. The July 6, 1994 attack was captured on videotape at the Correctional Facility in Gunnison. Daniels is appealing his life without the possibility of parole sentence because the jury did not reach a unanimous decision. Assistant Attorney General Laura Dupaix will argue Utah’s capital sentencing laws for imposing life without parole is constitutional under both federal and state constitutions. This is a excert from attorny genrals press release. Following his conviction he was transferd from utah to Trenton state prison. I can say since his time in my prison he has been model inmate and shows a deep passion for music only the lord can judge!!!

Some one said they felt “sorry” for Eric that he is in for life for 300 check. He got life for holding a man down while a fellow inmate stabbed him for being black. What’s happened in his life is unfortunate what i find more unfortunate is that some peoples lives lead them to make choices that so negatively effect others lives.
